Odradek
In Vibrant Matter Jane Bennet mentions Kafka’s character Odradek, a thing-cum-person. I made a search of this and found Walter Benjamin has written as essay on this (Would love to read this at some point), and there was a show in Malmo called ‘odradek’ with some interesting artists, particularly Hassan Sharif, whose works remind me of some of the packaging pieces I have made. This seems to be linked to a time and place too, as my packaging is specific to a time. It actually looks like I referenced this in making my work!
Thinking about how I could 1. Frame my work (under a heading or concept) 2. Present the work
Since I make so much, and so much of it feels important, and that all the parts make up a whole, I am not making towards a final outcome, just many outcomes, as I discovered last year in the Incompletes. Perhaps I am an Incompletist, or maybe an Ideaist - I have so many ideas and together they make up one large idea?
This is nice, idea wise, but they just appear quite sterile and deathly to me.
