4x20x20cm
Task - Create 4 art works using techniques we have learnt responding to materiality. 20x20cm.
My starting point for these works was Imagined Topographies. I wanted to make pieces that use the inherent materiality of that specific medium to produce some which could be a plan view of a location, or perhaps a vista. I wanted this to be somewhat blurred.
This work was to specifically test a Korean Quilting technique, I chose to work with my personal offcuts just as these patchwork’s would have been. I find to cut up fresh fabric is somewhat against the truth of the quilt. The palate is muted, with a little nod to Agnes Martin.
\This is highlighting the raw materiality of everyday objects, I simply cut out 20x20cm from a box. This box has been saved from one of my Lockdown deliveries so has particular importance to me.
I wanted to show the different experiments I have made with media on different grounds. Each ground again has a specific link to Lockdown; earth from the woods, paper from packaging, rusty nails found on a walk.
This was an investigation with paper and stitching, creating a link between the works. The thread is from my ‘toolkit’, a limited number of shades used across works to tie them together. I wanted to create a 3D image using the materials themselves.

Board for reference how different media work on different surfaces.
