Card Vessel
Cardboard vessel illustrated with fragments of found ceramics from the river bed. Green transferware on the back and blue on the front. Illustrated with water colour. Fragments aligned loosely with the geometry of the pot, rim at the rim, base at the base. Many of the fragments are Blue ware, Delft Inspired. Pountney’s was originally famous for its Delft-ware.
Inspired by Susan Hiller's Fragments. Her gouache paintings of the potsherds. I have applied the technique to the card, which in turn could be applied to ceramics with underglaze or slip.
Overall I will consider this a test run. I like the effect of water colour on cardboard. I need to improve my looking so that I am not guessing at the image on the fragment. I don’t like the green side, maybe it is best with more fragments. Or perhaps a better arrangement.
The pot shape is very scruffy, this needs work. More sketches of forms? But this in itself could be considered a sketch for a final ceramics piece.
