New Books, Chadwick and Bourgeois
My new Helen Chadwick book has just arrived. Wreaths to Pleasure.
This work sung out to me with the delicious colours, the use of the frame and actually the frame completing the work (not just as a container). The natural and the unnatural, man-made and...really even with chocolate and flowers they are affected by the hand of mankind. There is a strong visual language with shapes and symbols, suggestive of body parts which is a theme in her work. The please could be these body parts, or the colours, or from the flowers, or chocolate, or the idea of pleasure people apparently have when cleaning.

Also just arrived is Louise Bourgeois: The Fabric Works. Her work is seemingly endless, and investigates so many avenues. I specifically wanted to look at her textile work as this is a resource I have to hand, and I was very curious to see how it could be used by a sculptor.
