stitching pots

Need to find alternative approach to producing vessels since I have no access to a kiln. Not just the ability to make a vessel but to have an idea/purpose?

My first experimentation with a fabric vessel. Handstitching; testing a couple of different techniques - I liked the surgeon style. (you can see this at the seam detail) I chose a stiff chenille which I have in a roll, presumably a curtain offcut, which I knew would hold it's own weight. I found the fabric roll in a skip and the thread somewhere at some point!

I think the underside of the fabric with the stripes could be used in interesting ways. Perhaps a tall vase like vessel.

My first response to Covid-19. The fanatical toilet paper purchasing. The common list item coffee (and in business terms a commodity) is irrelevant when you can deal in toilet paper.

Further ideas for textile vessels. Drawing from inspiration from my own Vases 'Broken Body Jugs' I have crocheted a version in waster t-shirt yarn fibre. I aimed to mimic the floppy twisted forms in my pattern, and yet still allow the fabric to support the form.

Painting the internal form.

Flipped around again.
