Broken body jugs
This is part of my personal ceramics project, investigating thoughts about women, 'motherhood', and women as depicted as vessels (rightly or wrongly). The idea for this piece is the carrying of child and the sacrifices to your own bodily health and function. The jug is to consider the carrying of a child making you a vessel for this life. One should not feel that women are automatic vessels, it is a choice not a birthright. There is no denying for me the sense that I carried someone and I was this vessel, not unlike a spaceship, during that period. With the ravages of this and childbirth there is damage to this vessel. These jugs show a collapsed form. They depict my feelings on the effect of carrying a child on my own body, but since they are all different they might invoke in the viewer that they are the small jug, or the large jug.
