Mini Project 3 24/10/2019

Requirements: Wood, Joint, One more material, One colour

Looking for movement, a playful, motile sculpture that can be manipulated

Prototype: Jenga block type pieces of wood of differing lengths. Jointed by coloured cable ties.
Initially was a a bit flaccid and floppy, then I jointed the end pieces to make a ring and this created tension. Testing movement and angulation.

Need to introduce another material...felt shapes reminiscent of bike chains. Suits the chain-like construction.

Chosen clear cable ties for the upscale to introduce colour to the wood. Mixed bubblegum pink paint to increase the playful element. Applied to one aspect to not overwhelm.

The sculpture is malleable and must be manipulated to life it from the floor. Can be hung/suspended/worn etc.

The prototype is easier to turn into ‘3D’ because there is more inherent tension. The increase in joints in the upscale increases the fluidity which is not necessarily a positive.

Could be interesting to remove some of the felt pieces, or have them unevenly dispersed.
