Guillermo Mora

'His work is focused on three concepts: overlapping, concealment and disappearance in painting. Through his practice, Mora conducts research about hidden paintings, paintings that hide other paintings, paintings that hide their processes, processes that hide painting, veiled images and paintings that history has hidden with time.'

'Prototipo' (2011) Mixed media on fragments of wooden stretchers, metal hinges
100 x 183 x 119 cm

Pouring acrylic paint and folding it back up, contrasting elastic bands. Gorgeous juicy colours. A youthful and playful feel to the work.

Reminds me of the joy of peeling old paint from pots or palettes and exposing the layers and mixtures beneath.

'Mas Aire I' (2017) Drawing on paper 100cm x 120cm

Also of peeling wallpaper, the different layers, designs, and times. Maybe hidden inside cupboards.

I love to be able to see a time frame, the marks made by different people or occasions. Different styles and fashions, how and when things have been updated and changed.
