Amy Goldin 'Pattern and Decoration Movement'

Pattern and decoration movement emerged out of the Feminist Art Movement, recognising that humankind throughout the ages have a desire or need to surround themselves with decorative objects. They also noticed that the Western (male) art world had determined that Decorative Arts are lesser to 'Fine Arts'.

Need to read 'Art Hysterical Notions of Progress and Culture.' by Valerie Jaudon and Joyce Kozloff, the Pattern and Decoration movement's manifesto.

'the prejudice against the decorative has a long history and is based on hierarchies: fine art above decorative art, Western art above non-Western art, men’s art above women’s art.'
